What if you could freelance as a teacher?

What if you could freelance as a teacher?

I guess that’s the same as being a “tutor.” But what if you could do this? I suppose maybe not for grade school students — foundations. (Maybe?)

But for adults — continuing education — if you prove your credentials by scoring on tests, providing evidence of aptitude, and producing real-world results — then who cares who taught you?

Talk about competition. They say competition increases quality. What competition is there in the public school system? If freelancers were all in competition, perhaps that would raise the bar.

But how would we ensure there was enough educational capacity in society? What if there was a shortage of qualified tutors? What if tutors charged too much for poorer people to hire them? I guess that’s the voucher thing??

The structure of learning should have open options — that is, you shouldn’t be required to go through 4 years of school if you can learn things in 3. You also shouldn’t be looked down upon for taking 6 years.

This is really a draft… but since noone really reads this site, I’m posting it and working on it over time.

Achievement — capabilities — shouldn’t be measured by a degree. They should be measured by achievement and abilities tests, designed by organizations that are going to be employing people.

Some courses — combinations of learning subjects — should be designed by organizations that are going to be employing people.

Tests should be given periodically throughout a person’s career to ensure they are still up to the tasks they previously qualified for. These should not penalize, but suggest areas for improvement and retesting.
